Women's Services Department
Founded in 1969, St. Petersburg General Hospital is a 219-bed facility located in the heart of South Pinellas County, Florida.   St. Pete General is part of the HCA West Florida Division of Hospitals, a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery and diagnostic imaging facilities, and a complete continuum of specialized healthcare programs that meet the healthcare needs of residents and businesses in West and Central Florida communities.  Our parent company, HCA, is the nation's leading provider of healthcare services. 
 
SPGH is committed to ensuring our patients have access to the highest levels of care available.  The Women's Center, featuring family centered care, focuses care on the patient and family as one unit.  More than 1,500 babies are delivered at St. Petersburg General Hospital each year. 
  • Number of Staff: 75
  • 32 Post Partum/GYN Beds for complete OB/GYN care; this also includes laboring patients and infants (80-90% of patients are Post Partum; may have some medical overflow)
  • 22 Nursery Beds (Level 1 Nursery)
  • 6 Labor/Delivery/Recovery Rooms (2 Operating Rooms)
  • Skill Mix:  RNs, LPNs, Obstetric/Surgical Technologists, and Certified Nursing Assistants
  • Major Equipment Used: IV pumps, IVAC, Dinamaps, Dopplers, Accu-Check, Accu-Dose, Fetal Monitors, Radiant Warmers, Isolets
  • Special Certifications Needed:  BLS and NRP (ACLS preferred for L&D)
  • Special Competencies/Skills Needed:
  • Post Partum/GYN:  Prior PP/GYN experience required
  • Nursery:  MUST have prior nursery background; prefer Level 2 or Level 3 experience
  • Labor and Delivery:  Prior L&D nursing experience required
  • Schedules:  12-hour shifts (0645-1915, 1845-0715) plus 8 hours mandatory on-call for all staff;  Full Time is considered 36 hours per week, including every other weekend; overtime available, but not mandatory; Self-scheduling is available
  • Dress code:  Professional scrubs (individual provides their own)
  • Designated Charge Nurse
  • Complete computerized charting ("Electronic Health Record") for patient assessment and care documentation; Labor and Delivery utilizes "OB trace view" for fetal monitoring documentation
  • Electronic medication administration record (eMAR) is used for the delivery of all medications provided to patients

Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications include:

  • Current Florida licensure as an RN.
  • Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association and NRP.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience required in a Women's Services/L&D setting.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
